Adding baggage allowance to a Thai Lion Air booking can be very difficult. We personally ran into this problem which is why we created where we help lots of people every day by adding baggage to their Thai Lion Air bookings (we support other budget airlines as well).

Why buying prepaid baggage in advance is important.

When you fly with Thai Lion Air, you are getting a very discounted ticket price because Thai Lion Air makes money selling upgrades and charging lots of fees. This is normal for a budget airline, but in the case of Thai Lion Air, the baggage fees can be absolutely insane. For example, if you show up to the airport with bags to check, Thai Lion Air often charges 300THB (~$10 USD) per kg for checked bags. For example, if you have two bags that are 25kg (55lbs) each then you would have to pay around $500 USD for your bags to be checked. If you have a connecting flight to catch you will be forced to pay that fee so that you don't miss your flight. In most cases, this fee is many times the ticket price for a Thai Lion Air Flight.

If you purchase baggage for the same flight via you will only pay around $92 USD, a savings of just over $400 even after we charge our small service fee. If you want to get a quote for your baggage upgrade use the baggage quote form to get an idea of how much it will cost for your booking.

You must add prepaid baggage at least 4 hours before your flight departure time.

Thai Lion Air requires you to purchase your baggage upgrade at least 4 hours before your departure time. This means that you will have to be planning ahead a bit if you want to check bags with them. Once you get to within the 4 hours of your flight you will be out of luck. If you get to that point and you really need to check bags, you will have to either pay their fees or purchase a different ticket with another airline.

Why adding baggage allowance to a Thai Lion Air booking is difficult.

Many people are having issues purchasing baggage through Thai Lion Air's website because of a few reasons. The main reason is that Thai Lion Air does not accept foreign credit or debit cards when purchasing baggage upgrades. This makes it nearly impossible to purchase your baggage upgrade in advance unless you have a credit or debit card from a Thai bank. This is why we created a way to add baggage allowance to your booking with any payment method you want. You just pay us and we take care of all the rest and send you a confirmation. You can get a quote for your baggage allowance in a few minutes on our website.

How to easily add checked bags to your Thai Lion Air booking.

To add baggage to a Thai Lion Air just use the website and you'll be able to pay for a baggage upgrade in just a few steps. Before you start you will need the following information about your booking:

  • Your Thai Lion Air flight number. For Thai Lion Air flights this "number" starts with SL and then will be 3 to 4 numbers after that. For example: "SL105" and "SL225" are Thai Lion Air flight numbers.

  • Are you flying domestic or international? If you are flying from a city within Thailand to another city in Thailand, then you have a domestic flight. Otherwise you have an international flight.

  • Your Thai Lion Air Booking Reference (PNR) Number. This is a booking reference number that Thai Lion Air calls a PNR. Your PNR is usually six letters with no numbers and looks something like "YEBGXP"

  • Your flight departure date. The date of your first departing flight with Thai Lion Air.
